ONE OF THE MOST ADMIRABLE WOMEN OF INDIA

"We admire some people who influence our life with their special characteristics. Admiring a person is not to follow their social media accounts and wait for their posts. Admiring is to inherit their qualities, follow their principles and inspire with their ideology"
Thimmakka was born in Gubbi Taluk, Tumukuru District in Karnataka. She was married to Chikkaiah who was a laborer but they, unfortunately, could have no children. She reportedly wanted to commit suicide when she was in her 40's as she was unable to bear a child.
Later on, with grit and determination, she decided to plant trees and get rid of great distress and sadness. Ten saplings were grafted in the first year and they were planted along with a distance of 5 km near the neighboring village of Kudoor. 15 saplings were planted in the second year and 20 in the third year. They were also protected from grazing cattle by fencing them with thorny shrubs.
In total, 385 banyan trees were planted, and their asset value has been assessed at around 1.5 million rupees. The management of these trees has now been taken over by the Government of Karnataka. She has also planted nearly 8000 other trees.
she found comfort or consolation in a time of great distress or sadness by planting trees. To fill the emptiness in their life the couple decides to plant banyan trees and raise them as their kids. The couple went to the hardship out of sheer passion for helping the environment and humanity.
They started a journey of pure dedication, untiring, and unselfish love of planting trees and nourishing them. She continued the journey after her husband’s death. This never changed their financial status but they never expressed their sadness to anyone on their poverty nor exposed their work for pride or in order to get admiration.
Her work was recognized by the Government of India and she was conferred with “Padma Shri” in 2019. Saalumarada - a row of trees in the Kannada language is how she was referred to because of her work.
Thimmakka is a well-known environmentalist and She has earned herself a spot in the prestigious list of BBC's 100 most influential women. She has also been involved in other social activities and many afforestation programs in INDIA. She has been planting trees for 65 years
